On September 2, 2025, the Paraststal Monitoring Department (PMD) conducted a site visit at the Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF). The PMD took the opportunity to discuss key operational aspects and future initiatives. Representatives from the Parastatal Monitoring Department (PMD) and SRDF leadership aimed to enhance collaboration and discuss operational matters.
The meeting commenced with a showcasing of SRDF’s vital role in local development since its establishment in 1993. The CEO, Mr. Cyril Saltibus, highlighted that the highest revenue sources for the foundation comes from the Sulphur Springs lease, part of its diverse revenue streams, the Gros Piton Nature Trail and the local radio station.
Additionally, discussions focused on SRDF’s governance framework, financial reporting, and the organization’s commitment to transparency and community engagement. It was noted that the SRDF does not receive annual subventions but has established a robust system for managing its finances, ensuring accountability through monthly board meetings and regular financial appraisals.
The SRDF has made significant contributions to education financing, providing essential support for students in the Soufriere area. This includes funding for primary, secondary, and tertiary education, as well as providing school supplies and resources to local institutions. The foundation also actively engages in various cultural initiatives, empowering the community through workshops and programs aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and fostering personal development.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to addressing community needs, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring that the SRDF continues to effectively serve the Soufriere area and its residents.
