Soufriere Regional Development Foundation

The Soufriere Regional Development Foundation (SRDF) is a non-profit organization established to promote and coordinate development initiatives in the Soufriere region of Saint Lucia. It was formed in 1993 out of the earlier Soufriere Development Programme (SDP), which was initiated in 1986 by the Cabinet through the efforts of the Soufriere Development Committee. The SDP was instrumental in projects like the Sulphur Springs Park, the Soufriere jetties, and the community heritage inventory. Following the “Soufriere 2000” planning retreat in 1990, the SRDF was created to expand and institutionalize community development efforts. Initially governed by a nine-member board representing various local and national organizations, the SRDF absorbed the SDP’s assets by 1995. In 1996, it received a 99-year lease from the government to manage the Sulphur Springs Park, one of its main revenue sources. Subsequent changes to the board’s composition occurred in 1997, and in 2008, the Articles of Association were amended to allow the Prime Minister to appoint the entire board, including the Chair and Deputy Chair.
