Saint Lucia Road Transport Board

The Saint Lucia Road Transport Board is a statutory body established under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act and operates under the Ministry of Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal. It advises the Minister on road transport, traffic management, and safety, and regulates the operation of public motor vehicles, including the granting of concessions. The Board comprises a Chairperson appointed by the Minister, representatives from key ministries (Transport, Tourism, Attorney General’s Chambers), the Police Commissioner, the Garage Proprietors’ Association, two traffic safety advocates, one insurance industry representative, and delegates from the umbrella Taxi and Public Omnibus Associations. Its functions include reviewing transport rates and fares, recommending traffic circulation strategies, regulating road services, advising on public vehicle routes and stands, and proposing policies on parking and road user charges. The Minister remains responsible for overall traffic control in consultation with the Board. The Police Commissioner may also implement temporary traffic control measures. This structure ensures inclusive oversight of Saint Lucia’s road transport system and supports effective traffic governance.
