Sir Arthur Lewis Community College

The Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC), which operates under the authority of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College Act, Chapter 18.08, is Saint Lucia’s premier tertiary institution, officially established in 1986 and named after Nobel Laureate and economist Sir William Arthur Lewis. Initially created to address overcrowding at the L’Anse Road Teachers College, it began as the Morne Educational Complex. In 1966, the Morne Fortune area was designated for educational use, with support from the British Ministry of Overseas Development. The institution was later renamed in honor of Sir Arthur Lewis and has since become a symbol of academic excellence and leadership in the Eastern Caribbean. SALCC offers education in various fields, including agriculture, arts and sciences, health sciences, teacher education, and technical and management studies, with the flexibility to expand as determined by the Minister. The College is governed by a legally established Board of Governors, which oversees its management. The Board’s functions, structure, and procedures are outlined in a legislative Schedule, which the Minister may amend with parliamentary approval. As a corporate body, the Board can take official actions, with documents and decisions authenticated through its seal and designated officers.
