Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards

The Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards is a corporate body established under the authority of Standards Act, Chapter 13.25, to regulate and maintain standards for goods, services, and practices, ensuring industrial efficiency, consumer protection, and environmental safety. It promotes national and international adoption of standards, conducts research, inspects manufacturing processes, and provides testing and calibration services. The Bureau offers advisory support to manufacturers, helping them develop quality control systems. It is governed by a Standards Council comprising 11 to 15 members, including representatives from the public and private sectors. The Minister appoints members, including a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, with terms lasting three years. The Council oversees policy implementation, educational programs, and resource allocation. The Bureau is led by a Director, appointed by the Minister, who supervises its operations and staff. It also collaborates with industry stakeholders to advance economic and industrial development.
